Texas cannabis records: common questions
How many marijuana arrest records does Texas report for 2025?
The Ledger sums 41,701 marijuana-coded arrest records for 2025 from the Texas DPS Computerized Criminal History county/offense workbook, including 41,049 possession-coded records. These aggregate records do not establish a count of unique people or unique arrest events.
See the annual dataWhat is the statewide rate?
For 2025, the calculated rate is 131.5 records per 100,000 residents. It divides records by the Census population estimates for the 250 counties with matching source rows. County records may involve nonresidents; this is not an individual risk of arrest.
Read the calculation and limitationsWhy does the Ledger differ from FBI-based totals?
The Texas DPS criminal-history workbook and FBI agency reporting are different systems. The Ledger documents the published difference without treating the totals as interchangeable or claiming to have established its cause.
Read the source comparisonWhich years and counties are covered?
The current corpus covers arrest years 2023, 2024, 2025 and provides a page for each of Texas’s 254 counties. The source workbook was published January 13, 2026. That is a snapshot date, not a year of enforcement results. Missing rows are labeled separately from reported zero counts.
