Texas Dispensaries: Medical Cannabis & Hemp Retailers
The short answer
Texas has a medical cannabis dispensing system and a separate consumable-hemp retail system. The word “dispensary” on a sign does not tell you which authority a business holds. Choose the record that matches what you need.

| I am looking for | Use this resource | What it establishes |
|---|---|---|
| A prescribed medical cannabis product | DPS licensed dispensing organizations | The dated state organization list |
| A physician to evaluate eligibility | Official physician search | Participating physicians who permit publication |
| A hemp retailer’s registration | County hemp-location records | DSHS snapshot records and source fields |
| THC drinks at a recognizable chain | THC beverage retailer guides | Reported rollouts and name-matched registrations, not live stock |
Medical organizations in the dated DPS list
| Organization named by DPS | License in the source | Organization website |
|---|---|---|
| Fluent (formerly Cansortium Texas) | 0004 | Visit organization |
| Texas Original | 0005 | Visit organization |
| Goodblend (Surterra Texas LLC) | 0006 | Visit organization |
The source lists organizations, not every shop, satellite site or delivery area. It is dated December 2025; these three entries are not a verified complete roster for October 2026. Use DPS and the organization’s own current information before arranging a visit.
How many medical dispensaries are in Texas?
TCL has not verified a current total of medical cannabis storefronts. HB 46 directed licensing of 15 organizations, conditional on sufficient eligible applicants. That legal target, the dated three-organization source list and a count of physical pickup points describe different things. Review the legislative record rather than treating 15 as a count of operating stores.
Look up hemp retailers by county
TCL’s accepted October 19, 2026 snapshot contains 12,053 retail-registration physical-location records and 638 product-license physical-location records. These are separate categories, not a unique-business census.
Choose a county and inspect source records or use a dedicated directory: Harris, Bexar, Travis, Dallas and Tarrant. Each exposes addresses, registration fields, source status and downloads. Address-city filters describe source addresses, not legal municipal boundaries.
Are dispensaries legal in Texas?
A licensed medical organization dispenses through the state medical program. A DSHS consumable-hemp registration is a different record and does not authorize medical dispensing. Neither a registration nor a business name proves product compliance or inventory. See the DSHS licensing categories.
Planning a cannabis business?
Read the licensing and costs guide. It separates medical organization applications, hemp retail registration and product manufacturing/distribution. Do not buy a general retail registration expecting it to authorize a medical dispensary.
